Frequently Asked Questions
Practical guidance for a grounded journey
What is Peyote?
The ceremonies that incorporate peyote are not merely gatherings. They are revered as sacred acts
of communion with the divine, fostering the inner growth of individuals, strengthening the profound bonds of connection with the natural world, and promoting a sense of unity within their communities. Within the hallowed rituals of peyote, generations find solace, guidance, and a deeper understanding of their place within the grand tapestry of existence.
However, it’s essential to recognize that the sacredness of peyote extends beyond the confines of indigenous communities. By offering unwavering support to these cultures, we, in turn, honor the intricate and symbiotic relationship that exists between them, the sacred peyote medicine, and the broader world. This endeavor is a harmonious cycle, where respect and understanding flow in all directions, benefiting not only indigenous traditions but also contributing to the broader tapestry of human existence, fostering a richer, more interconnected world.

What are the effects and how long does it last?
Acknowledging the diverse range of experiences that peyote can bestow, it’s clear that its effects are deeply individual, influencing each person in a unique way. Some individuals recount transformative, mind-altering, and spiritually profound encounters, while others describe a profound sense of connection with the natural world and a deepened self-awareness.
Indigenous traditions have a storied history of utilizing peyote for various purposes, including both physical and emotional healing, as well as a means of seeking counsel and support from the spiritual realm. In the wake of these sacred ceremonies, many participants share accounts of remarkable healings, emotional catharsis, newfound empowerment, and a rekindled sense of life’s purpose. This multifaceted plant medicine continues to offer a rich tapestry of experiences that are deeply rooted in both tradition and personal journey.
Where does the ceremony take place?
Ceremony takes place in a private sanctuary, a quiet home space prepared with care. It is an intimate setting where the fire, prayers, and sacred songs can be held in peace, away from distraction.
Is transportation provided?
Transportation is not provided to keep retreats affordable. However, taxis and Uber are available in the nearby area.
What are some things to avoid?
It is prudent to avoid the concurrent use of any medication aimed at increasing serotonin levels when considering Peyote, as this includes the majority of antidepressants, such as SSRIs, tricyclics, and MAOIs. Additionally, it is advisable to refrain from consuming red meat, alcohol, or recreational substances like marijuana for a minimum of 24 hours preceding your Peyote ceremony. For the safety of pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, as well as those with mental health conditions, high blood pressure, or heart issues, it is recommended to steer clear of Peyote use.
It’s worth noting that some individuals may encounter initial discomfort when consuming Peyote, such as feelings of nausea, stomach cramps, and in some cases, vomiting or diarrhea. For personalized guidance on these matters, it is essential to seek advice from a qualified medical professional who can provide tailored recommendations based on your unique health considerations.
Night Ceremonies
An evening of prayer, fire, and sacred song
Night Ceremonies are held as an intimate gathering guided by Grandfather Fire, Tatewari, and led by a Marakame, a Wixárika spiritual guide. The evening begins with introductions and a purification ritual, helping each participant arrive with clarity and respect. Offerings are then prepared in the form of candles for the elements of water, earth, and fire, and these are presented toward the conclusion of the ceremony.
